- The government of Gujarat has also played a proactive role in supporting groundnut farmers through various initiatives and schemes. Subsidies on high-quality seeds, improved irrigation infrastructure, and research-driven agricultural advancements have contributed to higher yields and better crop resilience. Training programs and extension services have educated farmers on best practices, pest control measures, and efficient water management techniques, all of which have led to improved output.
- During the 2024 kharif season, Jamnagar district recorded the highest groundnut yield in the state, reaching an impressive 2,625 kilograms per hectare. Other districts such as Dwarka, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Porbandar also reported high per-hectare yields, with each achieving an output of approximately 2,500 kilograms. This consistent high productivity demonstrates the effectiveness of modern agricultural practices and favorable growing conditions in the region.
- Looking back at the previous year’s performance, in 2023, Dwarka district recorded the highest per-hectare yield of groundnut, reaching an exceptional 2,750 kilograms per hectare. This achievement highlights the continuous improvement in farming techniques and the benefits of government support in boosting productivity.
- Overall, Gujarat’s dominance in groundnut cultivation can be attributed to its suitable agro-climatic conditions, adoption of mechanization, strong government backing, and the hard work of its farmers. As technological advancements and research-based innovations continue to progress, it is expected that the state’s groundnut production will further improve, reinforcing its position as one of India’s top groundnut-producing regions.
